So Long and Thanks for All the Fish!

Palm Trees on BeachOn September 12th, 2010, The Dividend Ninja began as a small WordPress site about dividend investing. My main goal was to learn how to integrate WordPress alongside other development platforms. Blogging about my new found love of dividend stocks was also fun!

Little did I know that things would unfold so quickly, and that the research and effort I was putting into my articles would be of interest to so many others. The Dividend Ninja grew quickly, with many writing opportunities which blossomed along the way.

I’ve had the opportunity to write for Canadian MoneySaver, write for other websites, present at a conference, and also get mentioned in the Globe and Mail. I have been delighted to meet some leading financial writers both in Canada and the U.S., and also to meet some great bloggers from around the world. I’ve attended some amazing conferences, and had a lot of fun! I’m grateful for all of these opportunities. Most importantly, I’ve deeply valued the connections and friendships I’ve made along the way.

In the end, becoming a financial writer is not something I ever aspired to, nor had the background for – it just happened. Nor was it a direction I really had planned to move in. I have contemplated the idea of writing a book, completing the Canadian securities course, and even writing on other sites. But in the end I decided it’s just not where I want to be.

Running a blog is also a lot of work, and it requires a lot of passion and motivation. I’ve struggled between spending the full-time effort I need to grow this blog into a top-dog, yet earning the revenue for the time invested. In many ways it’s been a Catch-22, and I’ve struggled with the ball-and-chain for over two years.

So with that said, I’m leaving this part of the world called dividend-blogging, and moving onto other things – the plans for which have yet to be laid in stone. I wish you all the best, and have immensely appreciated all of your support. I hope to be back one day, but for now I plan to take a big long break from this corner of the world.

Thank you all! So long and thanks for all the fish. 😉

    Avrom,

As someone who works in the finance industry I can tell you that it is not an easy task to explain complex topics in an easy to understand manner to a wide audience. You have obviously done a great job of that which is even more impressive considering you don’t have a finance background.

Good luck with your future endeavors.

      Hi Doc,

Thank you so much! Just keep those dividend stocks, no matter where the markets may fall over the next year or so. As you are in retirement, that dividend income will be so beneficial for you. That’s the beauty about dividends, you can collect the income or compound them through DRIPs! 😉

      All the best,
      Cheers

Don’t worry about your content, I’ll be keeping the site online! And I would be pleased to sell the rights back to you for twice the price I paid for it! (which I think was free) 🙂
