Interviews

Over the last few months, I’ve had the pleasure to interview three well know investors and authors. I am absolutely fascinated that each of these investors has chosen a different strategy, or methodology to investing, yet each has been successful in their own way. All of us of course have our successes and all of us make mistakes – that’s a given.

My hope in these interviews is not to convince you that index investing is a better strategy than dividend investing, or vica versa. Rather there is in depth knowledge and prudent advice from these interviews that is worth gold.

The Millionaire Teacher

June 26th, 2011

Andrew Hallam has published his new book “Millionaire Teacher, the Nine Rules of Wealth You Should Have Learned in School.” If you’re not familiar with Andrew’s writing he is indeed a Millionaire teacher residing in Singapore, and is a true inspiration to not only his students, but also to other investors… I wanted to learn more about Andrew’s new book. He has already received some very high praise from other well known financial writers. Andrew writes, “The idea was this: No matter what country you live in, no matter what your nationality is, you can build an indexed portfolio.”

Susan P. Brunner

June 10th, 2011

Susan P. Brunner has over 40 years investing experience. She started investing in the 1970’s, and by 1999 she was able to stop working and live mostly off her dividends. Susan is a dividend stock investor, and over the years she has tried many different investment approaches and strategies. When I asked her about this, Susan said that she tried them all, but dividend stock investing has been the strategy that has worked for her. With over 40 year’s investment experience, I really wanted Susan to share her experience and knowledge with others. That is really the point of this interview…

Derek Foster

May 16th, 2011

Derek Foster quit the rat race at 34 and became a millionaire using simple investment strategies. He shared his unique approach in his five National Bestselling Books, including STOP WORKING: Here’s How You Can, and The Idiot Millionaire (www.stopworking.ca). Derek also offers regular financial tips in Canadian MoneySaver Magazine and he has been featured in various media across Canada. When not writing or giving public speaking presentations about investing, Derek spends his time with his wife and five children (which can be quite a handful). Love him or leave him, Derek Foster is an inspiration to many investors using a dividend focused strategy to fund their (hopefully early) retirement.

The Canadian Couch Potato

February 22nd, 2011

Dan Bortolotti is an advocate for Index Investing, and his knowledge of this subject is extensive. His blog the Canadian Couch Potato is a fantastic resource for both the novice and experienced investor. Dan is also an accomplished author, and for more than 10 years he has contributed regular articles for Canada’s MoneySense magazine. This interview was inspired from the Debunking Dividend Myths series which Dan wrote on his blog in January and February 2011. To say the least, a flood of responses and lively debate quickly ensued from that series.
