The Volcker Rule

courtesy www.financialpost.ca
From the Globe & Mail this week, an interesting article about Canada raising the alarm over the proposed Volcker Rule. This is significant and wide sweeping legislation in the U.S. It is meant to help reform many of the speculative investment practices that emerged during the 2008 and 2009 financial crisis. One problem is the Volcker Rule legislation does not necessarily apply to U.S. banks and U.S securities. So many countries including Canada are claiming foul play!

If you missed it, I wrote a guest post for Young and Thrifty on creating passive active website income. It was a lively post with over 50 comments (though half were mine). The article was titled, Website Income vs Dividend Stocks: Which One Comes Out On Top? I really had a lot of fun hanging out on Y&T, and I had even more fun hijacking her comments for two days. Thanks Y&T!
I was also accepted into the Guest Authorship Program at BankNerd.ca. I wrote my first post for them on Valentine’s Day, titled, Should You Contribute To Your RRSP or TFSA?. This is a high profile Canadian site, and I’d say my first article with them went pretty well… Thanks Bank Guru!

I’ve really enjoyed reading Vix’s Money. This young lady is amassing a solid portfolio of ETFs with a sound asset allocation model. I also like Vicky’s back to basics approach. She started this blog to help her friends and family “to become more financially-savvy and develop a better relationship with money.” You can view her most recent portfolio update and Part-2 of her Exchange Traded Funds series. This blog is worth adding to your weekly reading list!
My Own Advisor (not really my advisor) asks What would you do with $1,000? I liked Young and Thrifty’s comment when she suggested adding an extra zero or two at the end.
The Passive Income Earner has strayed (just for a week) from his dividend roots – and gone into the world of foreign currencies. He wrote a couple of interesting posts, one of which on the Norbert’s Gambit (the what?).
Back in early February, Finance Fox wrote a great article on not getting stressed out about market declines, in the Stock Market Will Always Bounce Back. Sorry for taking so long to link to this post Eddie!
The Dividend Monk is launching a monthly newsletter. As his dividend stock analyses are the best around, I think this one newsletter you should add to your reading list!

I really appreciate the kind words and the link, Ninja.
Matt, my pleasure! I’m really looking forward to reading your newsletter. When I’m looking to purchase a stock, I’ll also head to your site to get some background info as well

Avrom,
Thanks for the mention, and more importantly sticking to your word.
Keep up the good work!

Eddie, it was a great post! It only took me 2-3 weeks to link to this LOL
Cheers
Thanks for the mention Ninja!
A future post will be, what if you had a $1 million
Ah, dare to dream….
Thank you for the guest post! Again, my brain and mental capacity thanks you (been stuck writing a paper all weekend).
Thanks for commenting too- I love interacting with the readers and I chimed in for a few of them (and hijacked your comments lol)
Agree about the active income thing for blogging though. Man, if I worked it out to $/hour it wouldn’t be very much that’s for sure.
Hey Y&T I had so much fun writing that post, and even more fun hosting it on your site!
Lots of feedback and interaction with readers too!
That worked out well, you were busy with a paper, and I had a post ready to go!
A win win for both of us.
Cheers
